The Week in Review

News - There has not been an abundance of change in Adelaide this week. I am still going to class and learning things wherever I can.

Weather - The winter here is tough as it was 71 and sunny yesterday. However, usually it is in the low to mid 60s and sunny.

Entertainment - I played "Extreme Hunting*" at the Unibar on Friday night. It is a decent game, though I am still unsure of why it was extreme. I believe it was made by the same people who produced "Big buck Hunter" as there are several similarities. You can choose to hunt moose, elk, mule deer, white tail deer, grizzly bear, or black bear. Originally, you can choose between a rifle, shotgun, or bow. I went the Ted Nugent route and use a bow. As you progress through the game you unlock other weapons, one of which is a slingshot. I ended up hunting grizzly bears with a slingshot, which might have been a bit extreme and definitely a bad idea in real life. *Note that no animals were harmed in the playing of this game.

Food - I continued my search through Australian Cuisine. This week was highlighted by a "pie floater." First, I should say that here they have savory pies. Like chicken pot pies, but with beef or other filling. A pie floater consists of a little pie 'floating' in split pea soup. Several Australians were shocked I actually tried this, but it was decent.

Sports - I got the nod to start on the mound against Flinders University on Saturday. I pitched 2 1/3 innings (we split the game up between myself and two other guys) striking out 4, walking none. Apparently the knuckleball is not that popular down here so it was a lot of fun. Sadly, I paid for it Sunday as I was a little sore after my first pitching appearance in a decade.

For those of you intrigued by Aussie Rules Football, the Adelaide Crows (who lead the premiership) squeaked by Collinwood by 4 points, which is less than a goal.

Travel - I have largely stuck to Adelaide so far. It turns out getting around Australia is a little pricey (the exchange rate isn't very good right now). Also, the weather will be a lot better in most of the country when spring comes in Sept. & Oct.
