Thai Chips - I Couldn't Eat Just One
I generally try not to subscribe to conspiracy theories, but this is now my third attempt to post this. Luckily, I got smart after losing the first one and saved a copy of the second one. So here it is...
It hurts me to do this again, but I am willing to make these sacrifices for you the faithful reader. That is right, I am out here on the road going uphill both ways in the snow for you. Here is a summary my Lays potato chip experience in Thailand. I purchased little snack size bags so that I could get through all of these and not get burned too bad by some of the flavors.
In no particular order (drum roll):
Bacon and Cheese - I expected this to be a pretty solid bag of chips as it didn't seem that wild. These tasted liked smoked cheese with Bacos. Overall the chips were decent, but it would be hard to eat a lot of them.
Thai Chili Paste - These were good. They had a light, but pleasant spice and some flavor like slightly burnt onion.
Nori Seaweed - These were surprisingly good. They tasted like a California roll combined with a pringle or baked lay. There were small flakes of what appeared to be actual seaweed on the chips. I could not confirm this as the ingredients were in Thai.
Salmon Teriyaki - These also had flakes of what appeared to be seaweed and actually tasted like the Nori Seaweed chip, but with less flavor. There was a light hint of teriyaki, but mostly potato. These were fine, but not impressive.
German Sausage - These had a ruffles texture and tasted like Spaghetti O's with a hint of paprika.
Seafood Mayonnaise - I opened this bag with a certain nervousness that can only be created by a foul seafood taste (like fermented shark which is a delicacy in Iceland). Surprisingly, these were quite good. There was a light hint of seafood and Mayonnaise with seaweed flakes. Neither flavor was overpowering and in the end they created a very tasty chip.
Grilled Lobster - These were not bad either. They tasted like a weaker version of KC Masterpiece BBQ chips with a light hint of a seafood aftertaste that was a little unsettling. Overall though not bad.
Hot Dog Cheetos - In a shock, these were the worst of the bunch. They had a Spaghetti O flavoring similar to the German Sausage chips, but there was also a flavor like stale corn chips. When it comes to Cheetos, you should just stick to the original.
If you have read this, I applaud your dedication to the potato chip. Hopefully if you are on a reality television show like the amazing race this information will allow you to enter your nearest convenience store and know whether or not you are in Thailand. Alternatively, you could just ask someone.
